La Paz - Doogie White

Doogie White sings with La Paz strictly for fun and to help raise some cash for charity.

Doogie's voice is world-class and his musical career spans a couple of decades which has seen him recognised as one of the foremost rock vocalists in the UK and beyond.

He is best known as the last singer with Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow before The Man In Black decided to disband Rainbow (perhaps forever) and form Blackmore's Night. They co-wrote an album, "Stranger In Us All" and completed two world tours.

It was whilst in Rainbow that he had the spelling of his name changed from the traditional Scots "Dougie White" to the more universal "Doogie White" - Rainbow's US management thought that if they didn't spell it phonetically then he'd be called "Duggie". The name has stuck although it is not without its difficulties for Doogie who is often frustrated when he visits his homeland and hears someone shout "Hey Dougie!" at him. After so long being known as Doogie he can tell the spelling of his name by intonation alone and he finds it very confusing to lead a double life.

After his successful stint in Rainbow he joined Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force and sang with the guitar maestro for almost seven years, completing two albums and touring the world constantly playing headline shows and festivals with the likes of Iron Maiden, Motley Crue, Dio and others.

Doogie also has his own band, Cornerstone and has recorded five albums with them including a live one from the band's 2004 tour. He is currently completing his first solo album and is also working on an album with Dio guitarist, Craig Goldy, whilst Ronnie is touring with Heaven And Hell.

"For unknown reasons, neither Ritchie nor Yngwie's promoters booked shows in Scotland so my home crowd never got to hear me live and I think a lot of people didn't know that I was even in the music business anymore. It's nice to set that straight! My real claim to fame though was being the Voice of Action Man for several years on the TV commercials. Great fun. I'd love to have done the lead in Jesus Christ Superstar also but I'm probably too old for that now! "

Most recently, as well as the La Paz gigs, he's been on stage with a number of bands throughout the USA and Europe playing festivals and show-case gigs.
